Presenting information clearly and effectively is a key skill to get your message, opinion, and research results across. However, many people feel terrified when asked to make their first public talk. Some of these initial fears can be reduced by good preparation which will also lay the groundwork for making an effective presentation. In cooperation with Heidelberg University’s Abteilung Schlüsselkompetenzen und Hochschuldidaktik (Center for Teaching and Learning), the Confucius Institute at Heidelberg University therefore offers Chinese Doctoral Students the opportunity to take part in a two-days training course.
The course will help you to prepare for the presentation of your research in seminars or at conferences. Questions that will be addressed are:
- How do I structure my talk to make it more effective?
- How do I use media efficiently?
- What do I have to bear in mind to address my audience most effectively?
- How can I improve my performance through feedback?
The course requires participants to be actively involved by giving a presentation. Therefore, you are expected to prepare a short presentation/poster on your research topic beforehand or after the first day of the workshop. Systematic feedback (from the group, the expert, and video) will help you to recognize your strengths and weaknesses, to try out new presentation strategies and thus to improve your presentation skills. The course will be taught by Dr. Ute Leidig (Abteilung Schlüsselkompetenzen und Hochschuldidaktik, Universität Heidelberg).
The Confucius-Institute will cover all expenses. Please send your binding registration to Ms. Petra Thiel (E-Mail: email@example.com), stating your name (Mr./Ms.), contact data (E-Mail and telephone no.) and research field. The deadline for registration is 16 March 2016. Since the number of participants is limited, reservation space will be made available on a first come first serve basis.
